How to Configure for Remote Access?
Prefix can be set to allow remote access to it's UI. By default Prefix only responds to traffic for the host name's localhost and 127.0.0.1 on port 2012.
If you cannot use "localhost" on your local machine for some reason, or want to access Prefix from another server, you can set Prefix to also bind to additional host names.
Find the Stackify.ini file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Stackify Prefix and potentially modify these two lines below. WebServerHostName can be multiple host names delimited by commas. Restart the Prefix Windows service after changing the ini file for this to take effect. You will also likely need to to change the Windows Firewall to allow the incoming traffic.
[Settings]<-- Both keys under this heading in the ini file WebServerHostName=prefixdemo.stackify.com,demo.prefix.io Port=2012
Note: Binding to localhost and 127.0.0.1 will always occur, even if not set in the ini file, but always on the configured port.
Warning: If you open up access via the Windows Firewall and bind Prefix to publicly accessible URLs, Prefix's UI could be available to anyone who could access that URL. So if it is accessible to the public Internet, anyone could then get to it. (just like our demo site is at demo.prefix.io)
